The InterContinental Sandton Towers” gets involved in the fight against World Hunger and the theme this year is “achieving food security in times of crisis”
On World Food Day, Friday 16 October 2009, the InterContinental Sandton Towers will welcome 20 AIDS orphans from Sparrow Ministries as a declaration of intent to continue to fight against World Hunger. This is an annual charity event that The Atrium Restaurant hosts for World Food Day.
“During these difficult economic times globally, during which we focus on fending for ourselves, it is easy to forget that there are those in a worse position. We forget to give to the needy because we are all determined to save and cut costs. We believe that it is especially important to continue to support charities that provide for the less fortunate during these times because it is even tougher for them”, explains Josiah Montsho.
“We are part of a community, a society, a nation, and we cannot operate in isolation. We need to ensure that each of us, individually and collectively, contribute to our betterment.”
The Sparrow Ministries is a Roodepoort-based charity that the InterContinental Sandton Towers has selected as its partner as an acknowledgement of the great work they are doing in providing care and comfort to both adults and children who have been infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. They believe in health and hope and serve as a Hospice for the terminally ill as well as a Children’s home for AIDS orphans and it is 20 of these children who will be treated at the Atrium. Sparrow Ministries provides services to communities in Gauteng, Limpopo, and Bloemfontein.
The InterContinental Sandton Towers has committed itself to doing more than putting a smile on the faces of the children. Sparrow is putting together a wish list that the Towers, as well as celebrity guests at the event, will work towards fulfilling. The hotel is committed to establish a long-term relationship that will manifest in different forms for the good of those that Sparrow Ministries assist.
The intention is to draw attention to, to create awareness around and to contribute to alleviating the dire situation facing so many of our fellow citizens, especially children. In addition, it is a call-to-action to all of us to recognise that we all have the power and the means to truly make a difference. |
